Our History

The vision for Sandhills began crystallizing in 1997 with a pivotal vote to develop the property. By 1998, the legal groundwork was laid with incorporation and land severances finalized, and in 1999, preparation for construction began with the removal of existing homes along Queen and St. George Streets—except for #189, which remains a historic fixture today.

The dedicated Board and Building Committee laid the foundation for this remarkable community, marked by the significant milestone of the Ground Breaking Ceremony on June 27, 1999. While construction faced hurdles, including the harsh winter of 2000-2001, persistence prevailed, and by September 2001, the first residents moved into their new homes, marking a joyous beginning for Sandhills.
